What is the SBHA Gold Star Achievement program?
The SBHA Gold Star Achievement program celebrates schools and districts across South Carolina that are leading the way in school behavioral health. This statewide recognition system honors schools and districts that are implementing integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) aligned with school behavioral health best practices.

Honoring schools and districts for their accomplishments, progress, and commitment to advancing school behavioral health.

Building a statewide community of schools, districts, and partners committed to sharing knowledge, strengthening systems, and advancing school behavioral health.
Gold Star Achievement Criteria
Schools can apply to demonstrate their progress in implementing school behavioral health practices across the tiers of MTSS. Schools can earn a Gold Star for each tier of MTSS implementation, for a total of up to four Gold Stars.
Celebrating Your Achievement
Upon completion of each level, schools and districts will receive recognition for their commitment to advancing school behavioral health through:
- An official certificate presented after the SBHA team reviews and approves the submission
- A public celebration at the annual Southeastern School Behavioral Health Conference, where recognized schools and districts will receive the SBHA Gold Star Achievement banner
The banner symbolizes a commitment to excellence and student well-being. As schools and districts continue to meet the criteria, additional stars can be added to their banner, showcasing their ongoing growth, commitment, and leadership in school behavioral health across South Carolina.
